Jesse's Recs - Nov. 21st, 2021
Hi all -
Below are this week’s recs. Please let me know of any feedback at jesse.krynak@gmail.com
Book of the week
Will Smith’s new autobiography (co-written with Mark Manson of previous rec The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**) was a good read. I loved the history of his upbringing and how he transformed a music career into movie stardom, as well as his search for true meaning even after enormous success.
Articles
The best article I read was this on the history of Tiger Capital and how that culture has allowed its venture arm to flourish.
Well-done piece about the show Succession and how it shows the pitfalls of enormous wealth.
Cool story about Al Kahn, “the greatest toy man you’ve never known”.
This tweetstorm by Shaan Puri about the Metaverse (being a moment in time vs. an actual place) went viral and was picked up by a number of tech-focused media outlets.
I liked this letter to investors from Anthony Pompliano (highly successful crypto investor) who decided to return all outside capital back to his investors to spend more time with his family.
Podcasts
Balaji Srinivasan blew my mind on this podcast with Tim Ferriss.
Loved this interview of George Clooney (who rarely does podcasts) with Marc Maron.
Great interview with legendary VC Roelof Boetha (who led his firm’s early investment into YouTube) of Sequoia
Have a great week!
